IPL International Break · 21 September 2026 · by IPL Staff Writers
Saka, Kostoulas, Brobbey, Doku. Four players whose managers are about to find out what the staff did with them.
Three weeks, no football. No lineups, no auto-subs, nobody to blame. Just twelve men with jobs, refreshing an app that will not update until 10 October.
This league employs a silicon engineer at SpaceX, a product manager at Databricks who presents on access control, an AI engineer whose job posting asks for experience with Claude Code, a research associate who works under the strictest quality systems in science, and a man in medical school. Between them, in gameweek five, they started fourteen players who did not play.
So the desk opened the trade machine. The rules are stricter than anyone remembers: like for like, same number, same positions, because both squads have to finish at two keepers, five defenders, five midfielders and three forwards. You cannot fix a striker with a centre-back. One manager in particular has tried.
Six trades. All legal. Most sensible. One needs a man in Egypt to answer a text.

Hookah Doncic Arne
5-0-0
gets Diomande (DEF), Kostoulas (FWD)
Grade: B+
Big Michail Hugh
3-0-2
gets Mitchell (DEF), Flemming (FWD)
Grade: A−
Hookah Doncic is 5-0 and its forwards have scored nine points all season. Nine. Flemming has played 60 minutes and been booked in one of them. The back five have 131 between them. There is no rule that lets you trade a defender for a striker, so the only way out is to send a defender who plays and take back one who does not.
That is Mitchell, 24 points, a goal, a clean sheet and a disallowed winner at Elland Road. Big Michail gets him because Hugh currently starts Diomande, a 2.3-per-game defender, next to an injured Pedro Porro, and he has three strikers for one shirt. Kostoulas has a goal, an assist and a won penalty in five weeks.
Mr. Kang spent college as the Duke Blue Devil, which is a job about being courtside in a uniform without ever touching the ball. He has since filled that role in his own back line: Diomande, 163 minutes, present at every fixture, involved in none of them. Mitchell is a defender who defends. Kang has three strikers for one shirt and can afford the one he never starts.
Who says no: nobody, and that is the problem. The 5-0 team is asking the fourth-placed team to fix it, and the fourth-placed team has the most points in the league and no reason to help.

CHunkyJeet FC Ashaank
3-0-2
gets Garner (MID), Brobbey (FWD)
Grade: B
fent folders Rohit
4-0-1
gets Ødegaard (MID), Marmoush (FWD)
Grade: A
CHunkyJeet starts five midfielders, and they are good: Semenyo, Mbeumo, Ødegaard, King, Lewis-Potter. Then the striker slot arrives and it is Marmoush, two points a game, with Mateta hurt and Osula hurt behind him. Ashaank is 3-2 with the fifth-most points and one hole.
fent folders is the opposite. Rohit has Brobbey, Barry and Igor Jesus up front and a midfield of Groß, Bruno, Stach and then Garner at 2.2. He designs chips for rockets and runs his team the same way: launch something new every week, keep what survives. Raed put it better than the desk can. “It’s like a new guy every week.” It works until the new guy is a 2.2.
Ødegaard is the best player in the deal and Rohit takes him without blinking. Ashaank, who is currently hiring interns and listed “experience with Claude Code” as a requirement, is the only manager in this league recruiting for the skill set that built the team in first place. Buying a striker would be a cheaper fix. He gets the man who scored a hat-trick at the Etihad and lost by two, which is the most CHunkyJeet outcome on the board.
Who says no: Ashaank should, and won’t, because he has watched Marmoush play five times.

Real Manhattan Teddy
3-0-2
gets Kayode (DEF), Manzambi (MID)
Grade: B+
RDunited Raed
2-0-3
gets Dunk (DEF), Doku (MID)
Grade: B
Real Manhattan is starting Doku, fifteen minutes and one point this season, and benching Dunk, who has 22. Mr. Hur filed fourteen waiver and free-agent claims last week, welcomed each arrival in the player’s own language, and released one of them the same afternoon. The champion is fixing a squad in every place except the one that is broken.
RDunited needs a defender who plays: Reece James is a hamstring risk and Konsa is at 3.0. Raed has Kayode and Manzambi sitting on a bench that outscored his starting eleven by fourteen this week. He also cannot resist a name, and Doku is a name.
These two have not agreed on anything since gameweek two, when both tried to lose the same match and the winner sent a written apology for it. Mr. Siddiqui’s day job is compliance software: he spends it making sure organisations follow rules they would rather not follow. Mr. Hur does not have a LinkedIn, by choice. The trade is small. The negotiation would be a documentary.
Who says no: Raed, twice, then yes, then a message at 1am that just says “deadass?”

wadeland Arush
3-1-1
gets Saka (MID), Solanke (FWD)
Grade: A−
Old Lady Nic
1-0-4
gets Ndiaye (MID), Emersonn (FWD)
Grade: B+
Old Lady is 1-4. Its bench has scored ten points all season, the worst in the league by twenty, and last week the auto-sub handed Nic seventeen minutes of Gyökeres for one point. He has two real assets left: Saka and Bogle. This is the week a 1-4 team decides whether it is a contender.
wadeland is third and has spent five weeks leaving points on the bench: De Cuyper in gameweek one, Emersonn in gameweek four, Rushworth and his eleven this Sunday, an assist and a clean sheet delivered against wadeland’s own starting goalkeeper. Emersonn has 26 points and cannot get in the team.
So: Ndiaye and Emersonn, two players who start every week, for Saka and Solanke. Signore Conta converts a star into volume and finally owns a bench. Mr. Mehrotra, who presented on fine-grained access control at his company’s summit this summer, gets the best player in the deal and full authority over which of his points sit on the bench, an authority he has exercised in all five gameweeks so far. Bold, because nobody in this league has ever traded a Saka. Nobody in this league has ever traded anybody.
Who says no: Nic, in Italian, and then he claims two more players off waivers and forgets he said it.

YANITED Akash
1-1-3
gets Sávio (MID), Ajayi (DEF)
Grade: A−
Rayanair Jonathan
0-0-5
gets Mainoo (MID), O’Reilly (DEF)
Grade: C+
YANITED’s two worst starters are defenders: O’Reilly at 1.5 a game, Gusto at 1.0. Akash does data analytics for a record label, which means he spends his working hours proving things with numbers and his weekends starting four Chelsea players on vibes. He defended that policy in three words (“Blue lives matter”) six days before Chelsea lost 3-0 at Brentford. Mainoo, who starts for United every week, watches from his bench.
Rayanair is 0-5 and has started at least two zero-minute players in all five gameweeks. Jonathan does not need another prospect. He needs bodies that appear in a lineup, and Mainoo appears in a lineup. He gives up Ajayi, who has 27 points and has spent most of them on his own bench, which is its own kind of injury.
Mr. Kfir went to Berkeley for computer science and molecular biology, works at an AI drug-discovery company and is finishing a medical degree, which makes him the most qualified person in this league and the only one who cannot get eleven men onto a pitch. The staff will not pretend this fixes the season. It fixes Saturday.
Who says no: Jonathan, if he reads it. He has sent four messages since August.

Shmoney Shyam
2-1-2
gets Donnarumma (GKP), Fernández-Pardo (FWD)
Grade: A
A Ahmed
1-1-3
gets Henderson (GKP), N. Jackson (FWD)
Grade: B
Shmoney’s goalkeeper situation is a running joke with a doctor’s note attached: Henderson is out until 11 October and the contingency plan arrived on waivers a week ago. Mr. Kannan spends his working life under cGMP and cGLP quality control, the strictest standards in science, where nothing ships without being checked twice. He has started the same three zero-minute players two weeks running.
A has Raya, who is excellent, and Donnarumma, who is excellent, and can only play one of them. Ahmed’s striker is Fernández-Pardo at 1.3 a game. He scored 21 this week, the lowest score in the league this season. Jackson starts for Villa.
This is the cleanest fit on the board and the least likely to happen. Ahmed built this squad by being asleep in Egypt when the draft started at 3am, and has since insisted the autopicks were his own watchlist order and not a robot’s, a distinction this league takes seriously. He sends roughly one message a month. The trade improves both teams immediately. It needs a reply.
Who says no: nobody says anything, which is how this ends.
